With the second airliner to go missing this year, fearful people are canceling flights. It made me wonder how many flights take place globally in a given day.
So three (if you include the airliner shot down by Russian-Ukrainians) is a tiny number. Even if you include deaths of passengers in private planes, it is still small.
Auto accidents in the USA alone claimed 33,561 in 2012, which is way down from 43,510 in 2005. That year, six months worth of road deaths would have equaled all the airline deaths since commercial aviation began.
