Anyone who watched the “60 Minutes” interview with the FBI agent who interrogated Saddam Hussein for seven months should understand two things:

• Saddam fooled the world into thinking he had WMD. He did so because he thought it necessary for self-preservation. (For those who abuse the word irony, this is irony.)
• Saddam fully intended to resume his WMD programs when the heat was off, and had the capability to do so.

Thus, it wasn’t the fault of the CIA, MI5, French intelligence or even Saddam’s generals for believing Iraq had WMD. Two, the sanctions against Saddam were quickly eroding. Without our intervention, Iraq today would be under the control of an evil man with WMD.
