Here’s a warning to movie fans: avoid “Funny Games” with Tim Roth and Naomi Watts. This is a scene-be-scene remake, by the same Austrian filmmaker, of a nasty movie he directed in 1997.

My wife and I watched it on DVD a few years back. Aside from being unpleasant to watch — a family on vacation is taken hostage and is tortured — it was pretentious, nihilistic and preachy.

Crap with subtitles is still crap.
