Douglas Feith, former Undersecretary of Defense under Rumsfeld, wrote a memoir, War and Decision, about how the War of Terror was planned and executed right after 9/11. I’m about 80 pages into the book and finding it fascinating.

As one of the hated “neocons” Feith has been pilloried by Big Baloney. So what do they think of the book? Rich Lowry:

I’m told that the Washington Post won’t be reviewing Doug Feith’s book. And the New York Times hasn’t reviewed it yet either. I know as conservatives we always complain about MSM outfits not reviewing our books, but this is truly outrageous. Apparently it’s OK to heap every failure in Iraq on Feith’s head, but then to turn around and pretend he’s a figure of no consequence when he writes a book. A book that by all accounts is scrupulously substantive.

Michael Yon’s book Moment of Truth in Iraq is a must read, and an easy read. Yon has earned a special trust among those who care about Iraq.

He’s nobody’s boy and as such provides a service the politicized mainstream media cannot provide. Yon also writes extremely well and takes amazing photographs.

This book is extremely current: I read it two weeks ago and it referenced events from late March (which probably accounts for a large number of typos and other glitches.)

Yet Yon’s book is not being sold on most military bases within the US. Yon explains why not:

My publisher and literary agent have been working with the private companies who handle book distribution on military bases in order to get “Moment of Truth in Iraq” on their shelves. The process is arduous, to put it mildly. They have succeeded in getting the book into overseas bases. But as the publisher and my agent are slowly working their way through US distributors who cover different geographic regions, they have been told “no” by the largest distributor, the Anderson News Company.A letter from Anderson News:

Thank you for submitting Moment of Truth in Iraq to Anderson News for review. We have reviewed this book and do not consider it appropriate for our company to handle at this time, as it does not fit our current distribution needs and capabilities.Thank you for considering us to distribute your book.Sincerely,
