Everything’s got a day these days

I hope you’ve already marked your calendar and made plans, but just in case you forgot the most important event of 2008: Today, Friday the 13th, is National Pigeon Day.

How to celebrate it? Personally, I plan to devote the day to rereading “The Pigeon,” a 667-page encylopedia that I have treasured since I became obsessed with watching a baby pigeon hatch on my windowsill. (The New York Times Magazine, unfortunately, gave me only 3,000 words to tell the story of Squabby’s life — absurdly inadequate for so momentous a topic.)
