No matter how stupid Democrats are economically, you can always count on them for a good slogan. Their latest: “You can’t drill your way out of this.”

With record oil prices caused (mostly) by supply shortfalls, the obvious solution is to increase drill for more. Instead the Democrat plan has been:

  • sue OPEC for not pumping more oil to sell us, while putting our oil off limits
  • penalize oil companies by seizing some of their profits (which belong to millions of citizens with IRAs, mutual funds etc.)
  • nationalize oil refineries
  • “invest” tax dollars in alternative energy technologies

The latter would make Uncle Sam a venture capitalist. As we write, thousands of venture capitalists, who evaluate business ideas for a living, are risking their own dollars on new technologies — who wouldn’t want a piece of a company that owns the future?

Yet Dems think government can pick energy ventures better than the pro’s. These are the same Democrats who this week had to concede the Senate couldn’t run a lunch room profitably and outsourced the job to the private sector.

And the very Democrats who condemn Bush for not planning for every contingency in the war on terror cannot grasp the idea planning for tomorrow. Thus drilling in ANWR is dismissed as having no effect on today’s “crisis.” But if Bill Clinton had not vetoed ANWR drilling, we’d be pumping it today.

As food prices rise and shortages loom, one would think that planting more crops would be the obvious step, and it is. But you can’t eat today what you plant today. So by Democrat logic, there’s really no point in increasing the food supply — you can’t plant your way out it.

Via Maggie’s Farm, there’s this cooked up by the Republicans.
