ugly territory
So much for all the talk about the beacons of light and returning respect to the United States. Barack Obama’s choice for vice president can only drag the country into ugly territory. His pick simply confirms his total disregard for the Iraqi people.
All along, Biden has made it clear that he sees Iraqis as nothing more than savages bent on killing one another. His solution is to divide the country to stop the beasts from murdering the other beasts. He can argue all he wants that President Bush and John McCain are not nearly as smart as Biden is, but at least they will not abandon the Iraqis.
It’s not just Iraqis who wonder about Obama’s pick. One interesting analysis comes from the AP’s Ron Fournier who says that by picking the experienced Biden, Barack Obama is showing a “lack of confidence.” So Obama acknowledges that he is not ready to be president, and he picks a guy who can make up for the gaps.
Joe Biden reportedly “brings to the ticket a deep knowledge of McCain, which Democrats hope will allow him to attack the Republican all the more effectively. He said yesterday that ‘John McCain is genuinely a friend of mine’ who he had known for 35 years – but went on to roundly trash his candidacy as four more years of ‘Bush-McCain’.”
Will Americans really be impressed with someone who is ready to trash his friend of 35 years? My guess is voters respect loyalty. Obama’s pick also says: “These times require more than a good soldier, they require a wise leader.” So he thinks that his friend of 35 years is nothing more than a good soldier (like that’s bad) — as if McCain’s service to the country is so meaningless.
I can understand that Biden believes Obama demonstrates good judgment by choosing Biden as his running mate. You know, Obama recognizes Biden’s genius. But I have to ask whether Obama has shown anything other than bad judgment on Iraq.
Throughout this campaign, Iraqis have questioned Obama’s thinking about Iraq. We now have a confirmation that Obama couldn’t care less about Iraq and its people. Biden is someone who has been pushing [Arabic] for the division of Iraq. He is known as the author of a 2006 plan to divide the country into ethnic and sectarian enclaves. But Biden’s plan is not only impractical, it is insulting because it sees Iraqis as a bunch of savages who cannot get along and therefore must be separated.
Look, I know Iraq is far away. I also know that its population is round 25 million — in other words not that big. But believe me the Iraqi people deserve to live and should not be handed over to al-Qaeda and the Shiite militias. Think I’m being dramatic? How could I forget that Obama has made it clear that he is fine with a genocide once the U.S. forces leave. To me, Obama sure looks like he believes the people of Iraq are expendable. If Biden sincerely believes the United States needs a wise leader, he should vote for John McCain.
Yes, Iraq is only 25 million. But Sen. Biden’s state of Delaware is only 850,000, a tiny pond in which to become a big fish.
